HYDERABAD:
The FIA has registered an FIR against six police officers in connection with the alleged custodial death of teacher Jam Aziz Jakhro at Shahdadpur police station in Sanghar district.
The FIR, filed by brothers Jam Haider Zaman and Jam Sibtain Sultan on Wednesday, named SHO Ghulam Shabbir Dalwani and constables Gul Muhammad Zardari, Ali Lakho, Rafique Ahmed Ujjan, Muharram Ali Zardari and Amanullah.
According to the FIR, the medical examination confirmed that Jakhro had suffered intentional and self-inflicted injuries, which proved fatal while he was in police custody. This act constitutes custodial murder in contravention of constitutional protections and statutory safeguards, punishable under the Torture and Death in Custody (Prevention and Punishment) Act, 2022.
The FIA took over the investigation following the instructions of the Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate II, after the November 10 incident. The teacher’s family staged a sit-in protest with the corps for around 20 hours, demanding the arrest of the accused police officers. The body was then buried under police supervision.
