The federal government has dismissed the director general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Ahmed Ishaque Jehangir and the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police, Akhtar Hayat, citing administrative failures, confirmed Monday. responsible.
Jehangir has been reassigned as a special service officer (OSD) in the establishment’s division, Express News reported.
His withdrawal comes in the midst of increasing concerns concerning the trafficking of human beings, with sources linking the decision to the slow response of the FIA to the tragedies of migrant boats.
Pakistan has witnessed several migrant migrant incidents in recent months, including the capacity of a boat off the Moroccan coast earlier this month, which killed at least 50 people, most of the Pakistanis.
The FIA was confronted with criticism of its management of these cases, with reports suggesting that the Prime Minister approved Jehangir’s dismissal due to the slowness of investigations.
Meanwhile, the government also withdrew the KP police chief Akhtar Hayat, appointing Zulfiqar Hameed in his place.
Officials have cited the deterioration of the security situation in the province, in particular growing violence in Kurram and non-compliance with the application of laws.
Hayat also asked the police in November 2024 to refrain from participating in political activities in the midst of the demonstrations of Pakistan Tehreek-E-insaf (PTI).
His withdrawal follows months of federal criticisms on the treatment of the law and the order by KP.
The establishment’s division began to preselect the candidates to the new leader of the FIA, while an official notification confirming the appointment of Hameed as KP IG has been issued.
