FIFA targets $ 1 billion in income from the Women’s World Cup, the president of Global Soccer Organ Gianni Infantino said on Tuesday at the Investment Forum in Saudi 2025 in Riyadh.
The 2023 Women’s World Cup, organized by Australia and New Zealand, broke out even after generating more than $ 570 million in income.
“Women’s football and women in football are essentially important …” said Infantino.
“It also grows, and exponentially, and we also target this to have revenues of $ 1 billion only with the Women’s World Cup to reinvest in the women’s game.”
The next women’s world cup in 2027 will be organized by Brazil, which makes it the first edition to be held in South America. The United States is about to be appointed host of the 2031 edition, which will be extended to 48 teams of 32.
Infantino also said that there was massive potential for football to generate more income outside Europe.
“If the rest of the world, in particular Saudi Arabia or the United States of America, would only make 20% of what Europe does in football, we (could reach one more amount) of half a bill (dollars) or more impact of GDP (with our sport),” he added.
“Saudi Arabia, by the way, is done exceptionally well also by creating a female league, a national women’s team. Women’s football is really the only team sport for women who also have an enormous audience and impact.”
