- Figma MCP is no longer on the desk, it happens to IDE, to IA agents and more
- MCP also folds code bases and projects in Figma Make
- API rate limits will change, but only 1% of users will be affected
Figma deploys upgrades behind the scenes to make its AI agents even more powerful by extending their access to a context in more places.
Depending on the launch of the local MCP server earlier in 2025, Figma adds remote access to FIGMA MCP, allowing users to connect to the platform from IDE, AI coding agents and models-based models.
The company also launched a catalog of partners to simplify the connection of the MCP server to FDI or agents.
Figma MCP has just received a large upgrade
Figma also uses its Model context protocol (MCP) – an open source standard to connect AI tools with applications, tools and software platforms – just inside Figma Make to provide a bridge between user projects and their code bases.
It allows AI models to access the underlying code from making files, not only prototypes or images rendered, and will be supported in Anthropic, Cursor, Windsurf and VS Code from launch, with indications that other partners could reach on a later date.
Figma Make was launched at the 2025 configuration in May as a quick tool to transform the entry of natural language into fully coded protoypes.
In the future, Figma says that it will examine all public integrations of third parties and MCP customers before they can access user data to guarantee maximum security. The REST API rate limits will also be adjusted from November 17, but Figma claims that the change will only affect less than 1% of active figma users.
“We want the context to move freely between the tools so that explorations can evolve towards production characteristics, without unnecessary rewriting or modification,” added Figma CTO Kris Rasmussen.
Figma also added the mapping in the application in Code Connect, and the MCP server promises to share more than the design context, such as the locations of code components and user guidelines.
The changes are available now, but Figma noted that they stayed in a beta version.
