- Xiaomi announced smart glasses AI
- They share a lot of similarities with meta rays, even at the same way
- Xiaomi specifications have unique characteristics, such as electrochromic gradation
The Chinese technology brand Xiaomi is not about to leave Android XR, Meta and others run in front of him in the world of smart glasses, because he has just announced his AI glasses – and although they are terribly similar to Meta’s specifications, they offer some improvements, including one that I mentioned Meta to add since the launch.
The end of speech, however, when they cost just as much as Meta’s specifications, many of us reading this do not cling to a pair, because at the moment, it seems that they are exclusive to the Turf at Xiaomi: China.
At a glance, they very much look like the Meta Ray-Ban intelligent glasses that I use regularly. They offer an elegant setting in a handful of color options thicker than normal but always quite elegant.
They have similar equipment, such as a 12MP camera which can apparently capture a 2K video to 30 images per second, integrated microphones to capture what you say and open ear speakers for audio playback.
You can also use hands -free glasses, make her assistant have taken photos for you or respond to your requests – and again, just like Meta’s specifications, these Xiaomi glasses capture an image to use as context for your questions as “identify this flower”.
But immediately, there are some key differences.
At the end of an arm, you can find a USB -C port allowing you to load the AI glasses while wearing them – Meta specifications only charge in their case.
They also offer a larger battery, Xiaomi promising “8.6 hours” or about eight hours, 36 minutes of use between charges.
You can also use the glasses to pay the sellers if they offer the possibility of paying via the scanning of a QR code. It may not be something that you often see, but it is a very common payment method in China.
Above all, however, these glasses offer an electrochromic gradation. This is the functionality that I think the coolest.
Take advantage of the nuances
For smart glasses to be a success, they must be something you can wear all the time.
Imagine if your phone only worked in time.
Regarding technology, you can use smart glasses in all the same conditions, but the lenses that you have decided.
Clear lenses are perfect for more cloudy days, while shaded lenses are much more suitable for brilliant sunny conditions, but non-start for darker weather or interior use.
Since the exchange of my meta-rays, which were always shaded, for a pair with transition lenses, I use them much more frequently because I can count on them in a wider range of weather conditions.
The electrochromic gradation offers this same practice, but instead of being determined by the weather, the intelligent glasses of Xiaomi can be darkened or enlivened manually by sliding your finger along their arms.
In many ways, it is about as useful as transition lenses, but for me, electrochromic gradation wins because you have more personal control over shade, allowing you to modify your vision at will.
Although it is a tight race, especially because the features seem to cost roughly the same thing.
While the basic glasses Xiaomi cost 1999 ¥ – similar to the $ 299 / £ 299 / $ 449, you would pay for basic Ray -Ban intelligent glasses – they do not have an electrochromic gradation. The cheapest pair with the functionality is ¥ 2,699, which is about the same price as meta-rays equipped with $ 379 / £ 379 / $ 539 in.
So, for the moment, I will stick to my intelligent transition lens glasses, but I will look at this space because the objective technology that changes color becomes such an essential feature, it must be included with the basic model – although the two key options are inevitably expensive.
