James Cameron has done it again.
His new sci-fi fantasy Avatar: Fire and Ash surpassed $1 billion in global revenue.
The film successfully takes audiences back to the alien world of Pandora.
According to Walt Disney Studios, worldwide ticket sales have now reached
$1.03 billion.
“These films consistently drive audiences to theaters,” said Paul Dergarabedian, market trends manager at Comscore.
The original Avatar, released in 2009, became a huge success and grossed $2.9 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of all time in terms of total sales.
However, the 1939 classic Gone with the Wind It still ranks first when adjusted for inflation.
The continuation of Avatar: The Way of Water, released over a decade later in 2022, grossed over $2.3 billion worldwide and won an Academy Award for its visual effects.
Interestingly, the latest installment performed well at the box office despite being released during the holiday season.
It grossed $306 million in North America and $777.1 million internationally.
For those who don’t know him, Cameron’s journey with billion-dollar films began with Titanic in 1997, which grossed nearly $2.3 billion worldwide.
