Mike Rizzo’s race with Washington Nationals ended earlier this week. The MLB club relieved Rizzo from its functions as managing director after 16 years.
Rizzo helped build the winning list of the 2019 Nationals World Series. But the team had an approximate first half of the 2025 season and participated in the action of Friday in the last place in the NL East.
Despite its exit without ceremony from the Nationals, Rizzo has always taken a moment to show its appreciation for the team’s fans base by offering what was probably an unexpected gesture.

Rizzo, via his Instagram account of the Rizzo Family Foundation, confirmed that the work of the non -profit association would continue. He also expressed his gratitude to the fans and noted that he would be willing to cover the costs of drinks in a few sports bars before the Home Run Derby on Monday.

“To say thank you to the fans for 19 incredible years with the Nationals of Washington, take a Round On Rice ” Monday July 14 before the Home Run derby in Penn Quarter Sports Tavern or Walter’s Sports Bar. The first beer round is on us from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.. Reproach an incredible race!” The social media message said.

Rizzo also reacted to his dismissal during an interview on the radio, saying that he had “no regret” on his stay at the front office.
“I am proud of what we have accomplished,” he told 106.7 The Fan. “I know I did it in my own way, leading the organization as I felt best, and we were very successful.”

Rizzo also recognized the expectations associated with the supervision of the Baseball operations of an MLB team.
“This is an industry based on performance. When you do not include the standards that property has established, this is their option to make changes,” he said.
“I was a little surprised, but I was not shocked [after he was fired]”Said Rizzo.” Les Lerners and I spoke every Monday since I was there.… We had coherent communication throughout, and I don’t think it is based on a series. ”
Mark Lerner is the current main owner of the Nationals. His father, Ted Lerner, was the owner of the franchise for several of the same years that Rizzo was the managing director.
Washington compiled a record of 1,263-1,317 and qualified for the playoffs five times under Rizzo. The nationals also recently separated from the manager Dave Martinez.
