Last week, the news announced that the car car project supported by Amazon would begin the production of its electric collection at a reduced price next year, but the company is not alone.
Although prices are still to be determined, Isuzu – undoubtedly one of the most emblematic names of commercial vehicles – said that it would publish an electric version of its D -Max van in 2026.
Although its range is surprisingly sparse on certain markets (only D-Max is now sold in the United Kingdom, for example), the company is successful in Asia, including its internal market in Japan, Thailand and others, where solid and reliable trucks are essential to daily life.
The D-Max EV joins the tastes of KGM (formerly Ssangyong) electrified Musso, the Maxus Eterron 9, the next BYD shark and a series of cheap electric van which could soon go to China.
While Ford and Chevrolet have experienced relatively slow sales of electric vans, the market could soon become the next highly contested EV battlefield for world manufacturers.
The towing, transport and off -road performance have generally proven obstacles to the entrance for this body style, but Isuzu says that its EV is equal to the diesel option it also offers: it can transport more than 1000 kg in the bed, tow 3500 kg and accelerate from 0 to 62 MPH in 10.1 seconds.
The 66.9 kWh battery is located under the floor and the EV version uses the same scale chassis as the existing truck. Although here, Isuzu adds a permanent four -wheeled traction with an engine with the front and rear axles.
According to the brand, off -road performance is not affected by the electrified motorcycle group, with a 210 mm soil clearance milk and a paddling depth of up to 600 mm. There are also steep angles of approach and departure when the terrain becomes difficult.
Make a good deal
Isuzu did not reveal an official price for the D-Max EV, but we expect it to be much more than $ 53,000 / 40,000 £ / 84,000 to $ 84,000 at, it currently invoices a diesel version.
This placed it in the Ford F-150 Lightning shooting line, which offers an EV beach of 230 miles in the most basic variants. Isuzu, on the other hand, says that his truck manages around 163 miles in a single load.
As we saw with various electric vans, including the Tesla Cybertruck, transport or towing charges have a large impact on the electric range which, for many, is already too tight for daily use.
Slate Auto was honest about the very fundamental battery range and nature of its next model, but the result is that it seems to be really affordable. These trucks offered by Ford, Chevrolet, Rivian, Tesla and now Isuzu are still too expensive for many, given the compromises.
But electric commercial vehicles are rapidly gaining popularity, as technology improves and many governments continue to encourage their use for environmental reasons.
According to a report, the global electric truck market is expected to reach an evaluation of $ 78 billion by the end of 2033, against an evaluation of $ 19.5 billion in 2023.
With a multitude of cheaper electric models that should arrive from China in the coming years, as well as those of more established Western brands, the electrical care market may well be the next battlefield that is very contested for sales.
