Bahrain’s Interior Ministry said the country’s Anti-Cybercrime Directorate has arrested six Asians, including five Pakistanis, for filming, posting and re-posting videos related to the Iranian attack on the kingdom, it was reported on Tuesday.

On Monday, Bahrain said an Iranian drone attack on the island of Sitra injured 32 people overnight, as Gulf countries faced fresh attacks as Tehran continued retaliatory strikes in the region in revenge for strikes by the United States and Israel.

In a statement published on its Police Media Center website on Monday, the ministry said the Anti-Cybercrime Directorate identified and arrested the six individuals after they filmed, published and re-published videos showing the effects of what it described as “treacherous Iranian aggression.” The sixth person was from Bangladesh.

The statement accused the suspects of having “expressed sympathy and glorified these hostile acts in a manner that undermines security and public order.”

He said the videos circulated on their social media accounts, helping to mislead public opinion and sow fear among citizens and residents.

“Judicial proceedings were initiated and the suspects were referred to the prosecution,” the press release added.

The statement also urged the public “to obtain information from official sources and refrain from broadcasting or re-posting unverified videos or information in order to avoid legal liability and help safeguard the security and safety of the nation.”

On Sunday, the ministry warned people against photographing vital sites and installations and posting them on social media, describing it as aiding Iranian aggression and a punishable act.

“Anyone who betrays their country and cooperates in the aggression against Bahrain by photographing vital sites and installations and posting them on social media for use in Iranian aggression is complicit in this aggression and will be punished in accordance with the law,” the ministry said.

Following Monday’s attack, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar spoke with Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani to discuss recent developments in the Middle East. Both leaders expressed deep concern over recent attacks in the region, particularly in Bahrain.

Dar had reiterated Pakistan’s support for Bahrain and its citizens, emphasizing the importance of de-escalation, dialogue and initiatives to promote regional peace and stability.
