Five police officers were killed when a police vehicle plunged into a deep ravine in the Bagh district of Azad Jammu and cashmere, Express News said on Wednesday.

According to the authorities, the vehicle was on the road from Toli Peer to Lasdanna when the accident occurred in a distant area. The cause of the accident remains under study.

Police officials said the distant location and darkness have seriously hampered the rescue efforts. The emergency intervention teams were sent immediately after the incident.

“The number of confirmed martyrs is five,” said a spokesperson for the Bagh police. “However, it is too early to say how many others were in the vehicle. The surveys and checks are underway. ”

The authorities have not yet disclosed the total number of passengers or the exact cause of the accident, but an official investigation has been launched.

AJK Prime Minister, Chaudhry Anwar-Uul-Haq, expressed a deep sadness of the loss of life in the accident. He ordered the deputy commissioner and the police director to reach the premises and to ensure rescue and rescue operations in a timely manner.

“All relevant administrative units have been invited to carry out rescue operations without delay,” said the Prime Minister’s office. Road accidents in the mountainous areas of Azad Cashmere are not uncommon, in particular on poorly lit routes with steep and narrow trails.
