FM Ishaq Dar, a Saudi counterpart discusses regional tensions, engage in stronger links

Pakistani vice-prime minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ishaq Dar, had talks with the Minister of Saudi Affairs, Prince Faisal Bin Farhan in Islamabad, reaffirming the long-standing relationship between the two countries.

Discussions focused on improving bilateral cooperation in several sectors, the two leaders also exchanging points of view on current regional developments.

Earlier Thursday, DAR announced that Pakistan would improve its relations with the Afghan Taliban government, following in -depth consultations with all the stakeholders concerned.

“We are going to show reasonable diligence and discuss all the advantages and disadvantages,” said DAR to journalists concerning potential diplomatic change.

The announcement comes after China negotiated a trilateral meeting in Beijing, who involved Dar, the Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, and the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

The meeting led an agreement between Pakistan, China and Afghanistan to cooperate in the fight against terrorism, in particular by addressing groups such as Tehreek-E-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Liberation Army Baloch (Bla).

In trilateral talks, the three nations have agreed to eliminate terrorism from their territories, with DAR stressing that Pakistan would not accept Afghan soil for attacks on its security.

DAR added that if terrorist groups could operate on the knowledge of the Afghan government, all attacks by the government would be unacceptable.

DAR also addressed the issue of Afghan refugees, declaring that a new policy would allow Afghan refugees to enter Pakistan with a one -year multiple entry visa.

He stressed the importance of the Afghan government ensuring that its soil is not used for terrorist activities against Pakistan.

In his successful visit to China, Dar discussed various problems, including regional developments, trade and Afghan refugees.

He also confirmed that China and Pakistan had agreed to extend the Chinese-Pakistani Economic Corridor (CPEC) to Afghanistan.

The proposed projects include a new highway connecting Peshawar to Kabul and a Trans-Afghan railway to connect Central and South Asia.

A month ago, a high -level Saudi delegation, led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud, arrived in Pakistan to explore investment opportunities.

The delegation, which included the main Saudi officials, aims to strengthen bilateral economic relations between Riyadh and Islamabad.

This visit follows a recent meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman in Riyadh.

During their visit, the Saudi delegation should engage with the senior management of Pakistan, notably the President, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Military officials, to discuss potential investments.

Pakistan wishes to attract significant Saudi investments, in particular in the Reko Diq extraction project and the agricultural sector, within the framework of the Special Initiative of the Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).
