Islamabad:
Pakistan rejected the “baseless and baseless” claim of the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy that the Pakistani nationals were fighting as a mercenaries in the continuous conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
In a statement published Tuesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Pakistani government said that it had not been officially approached by the Ukrainian authorities, and had not received verifiable evidence in support of such allegations.
“The government of Pakistan categorically rejects the baseless and founding allegations of the involvement of Pakistani nationals in the conflict in Ukraine,” the statement said. “The Government of Pakistan will resume this question with the Ukrainian authorities and will ask for clarification in this regard.”
Pakistan reiterated its support for a peaceful resolution of the conflict by dialogue and diplomacy in accordance with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations.
The answer occurred a few hours after President Zelenskyy, during a visit to front-line positions in the northeast region of Kharkiv in Ukraine, said that foreign fighters from several countries, including Pakistan, had joined the Russian forces during the current war.
“Our warriors in this sector report the participation of mercenaries of China, Tadjikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan and African War countries. We will answer,” said Zelenskyy on X.
Zelenskyy had previously accused Moscow of recruiting Chinese fighters, an allegation of Beijing refused. kyiv also alleged that North Korea had deployed thousands of soldiers to support Russian forces in the Kursk region.
Despite repeated allegations of involvement of foreign mercenaries, the independent verification of these complaints was limited. Pakistan has always maintained a policy of neutrality in the Ukrainian conflict.
Since the start of the Ukraine Russia conflict, Pakistan has carefully walked, adopting a neutral position. Pakistan remained under pressure from the West to take a clear position and condemn Russia, but Islamabad resisted it and has refrained from voting against Moscow to the United Nations on several occasions.
However, in the midst of all this, there were reports that Pakistan could provide ammunition to Ukraine in a third country. Islamabad has always denied these accusations and insisted that he had no direct role in the Russian-Ukraine war.
The last allegation of the Ukrainian president once again brought the alleged role of Pakistan under the spotlight. This came at a time when President Donald Trump exerted immense pressure on India to stop buying oil and weapons from Russia.
Trump threatened to impose additional tasks on Indian goods for the American market.
