Ancient Grand Theft Auto 5 Audio designer Rob Carr believes Rockstar Games rebuilt its Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE) amid development Grand Theft Auto 6.
While discussing GTA6 and the systems he plans to be featured in the next game on the Kiwi Talkz podcast, Carr commented on the studio’s famous RAGE system, saying it was likely rebuilt in the time it took the project to get to this point.
“I don’t know [GTA 6]you know, besides the fact that they probably will have done it, you know, given the time it took them to get to this point, they probably rebuilt the entire RAGE engine,” he said.

“That’s the only thing I can say with real, genuine confidence.”
He continued: “I would be surprised if they didn’t, because the technology architecture has advanced significantly since then. GTA 5which again, easy to forget, was three generations ago. It was the last one to come out [Xbox] 360 and PS3.”

In the same interview, Carr also discussed what he can’t wait to see in GTA6especially the ideas that Rockstar will implement from previous games.
Carr said he sees the game borrowing mechanics from Red Dead Redemption 2like how GTA 5 had Red Dead Redemptionof the Dead Eye system: “I’ll be surprised if they don’t use something Dead red 2.“
Grand Theft Auto 6 will officially launch on November 19, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, confirmed that marketing will begin in the coming months, suggesting that the game’s third trailer will likely be released this summer.
