At least four police officers were martyred and seven injured in several militant attacks through Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in recent 24 hours, including Peshawar, Upper Dir and Lower Dir, police said on Thursday.
Two coordinated assaults took place in the Lower Dir Panah Kot region and on the control points in Upper Dir, targeting a police van and security stations, officials said.
Three police officers were killed and six were injured in the attack by Panah Kot, while a police officer was killed and another was injured in assault on the Lajbook and Shadas checkpoint.
Police say the attackers used heavy weapons, including rocket launchers, but were pushed back in most regions.
In Bannu, armed men on a motorcycle opened fire at the Khojari and Mazinga control posts, while in Charsadda, an alleged activist launched a grenade at the Turlandi control point.
The timely counterattack in time has thwarted attacks and prevented the losses of these incidents, police said.
In Peshawar, armed men targeted the Sakhi Pul and Nasir Bagh police stations, while the Tank City police station was also criticized.
The three attacks were repulsed by the attackers who were fled under the cover of the darkness, the police said.
The inspector general of KP of the police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed congratulated the “preparation and bravery” of the force and swore to eliminate terrorism.
The security forces have launched research operations in affected districts.
