Muzaffarabad:
Four terrorists were killed and two police officers kissed martyrdom during an exchange of fire between the security forces and the terrorists in the Hussain Kot region in the Rawalakot district, Azad Jammu and Cashmire (AJK) on Wednesday.
According to police officials, the meeting took place when the staff of the law enforcement made a descent into an alleged hiding place. The terrorists would have opened fire and launched hand grenades in the security team, which led to the martyrdom of two police officers on the spot.
To try to escape the arrest, the terrorists exploded explosive devices, killing themselves in the process. Among the deceased was the leader, Zarnosh Naseem, who said the police were sought in several very publicized cases, including the murder of the constable Sajjad Resham.
The authorities have added that Naseem has been living in the Rawalakot region for some time and was affiliated with a proscribed terrorist outfit operating in the region.
Inspector Deputy General (DIG) POONCH, Sardar Zaheer, confirmed the death of the four terrorists and the martyrdom of two police officers during the operation.
Interior Minister Mohin Naqvi congratulated the security forces for a successful terrorism operation. In a statement, he paid tribute to the martyr police, noting that their sacrifice had helped to avoid a major tragedy.
“Martyr officers gave an example by sacrificing their lives in the exercise of their duties,” said Naqvi, adding: “The whole nation welcomes their courage and stands with bereaved families in this difficult period.”
