Framework is best known for its modular laptops which can be personalized to meet your needs and, unlike many computers today, are also easily repairable. The company has just unveiled its latest laptop, the laptop Framework 12, which has super-excited, but even better than that is the first office system of the company.
Called (as you may have guessed) Framework Desktop, the new product is a mini PC of 96.8 mm x 205.5 mm x 226.1 mm, 4.5 liters, 3.1 kg. If you are wondering how small it is, the image above the watch next to a banana for the ladder.
Framework Desktop DIY Edition, which is available in pre-order now with the expedition scheduled for the third quarter of 2025, is aimed at users who want a high performance mini PC, easily improved with AI capabilities, but do not want to make madness the type of species rival systems like Apple $ 1099.
Highly customizable
Because it comes from framework, the device is highly customizable. The system has two processor options. The AMD Ryzen Ai Max 385 A 8 cores, 16 threads, a basic clock of 3.6 GHz, a 5.0 GHz boost and a 32 MB L3 cache, while the Ryzen Ai Max + 395 increases this to 16 cores, 32 threads, a basic clock of 3.0 GHz, a 5.1 GHz boost and 64MB L3 Cache.
The two processors have integrated GPUs, with AI Max 385 operating up to 2.8 GHz with 32 calculation units, and AI Max + 395 reaching 2.9 GHz with 40 calculation units. An embedded NPU provides 32 tiles and up to 50 performance summits.
Memory options include 32 GB, 64 GB or 128 GB LPDDR5X-8000, depending on the processor. Storage is provided via two NVME PCIe 4.0 m.2 locations, with a maximum capacity of 8 TB per location. The main card follows the mini-ITX shape factor and the system supports up to four screens. Connectivity includes AMD RZ717 Wi-Fi 7, Realtek RTL8126 5gbit Ethernet, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.1, USB-C with USB4 and USB-A 3.2 Gen 1.
The cooling options include nightua and Cooler Master fans. A personalized thermal dissipator with six copper heat pipes and aluminum fins is included. The 400W FLEXATX power supply meets ATX 3.0 standards and has an effective cooling fan with a rpm zero mode.
The case is built with 30% post-consumption recycled plastic and 50% recycled aluminum. One thing that we particularly like is the customizable front panel, which has spaces for 21 tiles so that you can dress it as you wish, and there is also a choice of side panels – black or translucent.
