French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Sunday an important investment in artificial intelligence (AI) before a two -day summit in Paris, AFP reported.
Co-organized with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the event aims to address the global governance of AI, ethics, accessibility and European sovereignty on AI technologies.
Macron revealed that France would receive 109 billion euros ($ 113 billion) of international investors, in particular water, the main American and Canadian investment funds and French companies, marking a key decision in strengthening the ‘IA infrastructure of the country.
Macron’s announcement reflects the US US investment scale, with the $ 500 billion “Stargate” project supported by Openai in the United States.
He also stressed the importance of investment, noting that it is equivalent to the scale of the American initiative, which aims to develop data centers and computer infrastructure necessary to advance AI technology.
Development comes at a time when the technical barriers to the progression of AI become more apparent, especially after the Chinese startup Deepseek amazed the Silicon Valley with its high performance AI models.
The Paris Summit will offer discussions of 1,500 participants, including international investors, heads of state and technological personalities from eminents such as Sam Altman from Openai and Arthur Mensch de Mistralai. The objective of the event is to explore the potential of the AI, emphasizing the balance between its advantages and its challenges.
One of the central subjects of the summit is the development of data centers, essential for the future of AI. Mistralai has announced its intention to invest billions of euros to build a data center in France, aimed at controlling the entire AI value chain from software to hardware. French nuclear power plants make it an attractive location for these high energy operations.
Approaches to global AI and public interest
Although the investment does not steal the spotlights, there are also efforts to ensure that the development of AI serves public interests. A new initiative, “Current IA”, will receive $ 400 million from a consortium of countries, businesses and philanthropic organizations.
This partnership aims to provide open-source tools and data to developers, by promoting an ethical approach to AI development. Political leaders will meet on Tuesday to discuss AI governance, while reaching a consensus between various regions such as the EU, the United States, China and India may be difficult.
