Fraudsters target mobile devices, NCCIA warns

Advises users to avoid clicking on unknown links or sharing WhatsApp verification codes with anyone

As the new year begins, the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has warned internet users of potential cyber threats, including attempts to hack mobile phones and devices disguised as New Year greetings or gift offers.

According to the NCCIA, precautionary measures have been issued to protect mobile and data users from cyber threats during the festive season. The agency warns that messages containing “New Year greetings” links and offers of “fake gifts” are circulating widely.

Users are advised not to click on unknown links or share their WhatsApp verification codes with anyone. Clicking on unknown links, especially those from unknown numbers, can compromise the security of mobile devices and personal data, the NCCIA advisory said.

The guidelines issued by the NCCIA are part of the government’s wider agenda to promote transparency.
