- Liquid Web Survey Explores How Independent Professionals Rate Web Hosting
- Sustainability comes at the bottom, but half of those surveyed would pay $50 more per year for sustainability.
- Businesses spend on average just under $20 per month on web hosting services.
Independent professionals increasingly view web hosting as a vital investment in growing their business, even though sustainability is often not their primary goal when choosing a provider.
A new study from Liquid Web found that professionals spend an average of $214 per year on hosting, achieving a remarkable ROI of 2,319%, with solopreneurs getting up to 2,846%.
While more than half of respondents say they are willing to pay a premium for eco-friendly solutions, they are primarily looking for services that provide a tangible return on investment.
Value for money with a host
More than half of respondents (54%) said they would pay $50 more per year for eco-friendly accommodation solutions, indicating that sustainable practices are an emerging consideration.
Meanwhile, 23% of respondents said they spend more than $500 per year on optimal performance and support.
Liquid Web found that the vendor migration process is both time-consuming and expensive, requiring an average of 6.6 hours or $115 in resources.
And yet it turns out that independent professionals still regularly change hosting providers due to cost, performance or support issues. Nearly 7 in 10 people said they had changed at least once, and 13% did so every year.
Hidden charges and unexpected billings are major triggers, with professionals experiencing these phenomena being 35% more likely to switch providers.
“It’s fascinating to see how solopreneurs, freelancers, and digital nomads are prioritizing sustainability and customer support. It provides valuable insights to adapt our offerings to their changing needs,” noted David Eblen, Chief Product Officer at Liquid Web.
