Only a few hours after Garmin announced a brand new premium subscription service, angry customers in thousands of people went to Reddit to express their dissatisfaction with the move.
As we reported earlier this week, Garmin Connect + is a new subscription level for Garmin users. At a price of $ 6.99 / £ 6.99 / $ 12 in or $ 69.99 / £ 69.99 $ 120 in per year, it gives users information on their training, a performance dashboard, a live activity function, an enlarged Livetrack, etc.
Garmin pointed out to us that “the Garmin Connect application is a free and personalized experience, and that does not disappear”, obviously to ahead of the utility of users. Unfortunately, this does not seem to have worked.
An article on Garmin’s sub -ubdredit with more than 6,000 votes and a plethora of angry comments has taken over the forum, while customers respond to the news.
“To all those who care about the future of Garmin customer service: do not register,” wrote the original poster. “We have to take a firm position to stop this totally harmful trend in subscriptions everywhere. We are already paying hundreds for watches that last only a few years because the batteries are not replaceable.”
Furious Post calls on users to “unite to fight for the right of our customers to software as a service for a watch with a thousand dollars”, and to oppose the change which “will reduce the conviviality and the property of our products in the future”.
Unanimous Garmin users in the Fury subscription
Do not register for Garmin Connect +. Unite to fight for the right of our customers to software as a service for a mille -dollars watch. It is a slippery slope and will reduce the conviviality and the property of our products in the future. The profits will increase and more and more will be found behind the payment walls! G / Garmin
“Never pay for the subscription,” said a commentator, “but that will make me rethink my future watches purchases,” they continued. “I could justify Garmin’s expenses when I knew that I received all the features with the watch, but we all know what happens to a service once a paid level is introduced.”
“It looks like Coros is back on the menu, the boys,” said an unhappy user. “Of course, I do not pay for this S ***,” added another calm.
Other users have encouraged the submission of comments to Garmin via his ideas page. Unanimous is a strong word, but I do not see a single positive comment or a reaction to this decision.
It is not only the reaction to a general subscription that users seem upset, but the value of the specific features offered. “I signed up for the free trial and I saw no value. I hoped a little that I could get rid of Stava Premium but no,” said one of them.
Garmin must have anticipated a reaction from users, announcing a subscription to a software platform previously free is always risky business, but I’m not sure that she could have imagined such a fervent outcry.
The problem, in a sense, is the context. Garmin users have endured a mass breakdown this year that saw unusable devices for 24 hours or more. More recently, Garmin users have raised concerns that expensive and powerful devices are left by a fragmented approach to deploy software and new features.
We contacted the company to comment on the fury around the announcement and update this story accordingly. Also listening to Techradar for an open forum where users can share their thoughts. A total walkback seems unlikely, but Garmin could be in a hurry to do something given the current situation.
