- New leak revealed upcoming feature for Garmin watches
- Garmin Connect Rundown displays a yearly summary of your fitness stats
- It highlights your progress in a number of sports and metrics
Annual wrap-ups are all the rage these days – think of Spotify Wrapped in the music world – but Garmin users have missed out on the fun. This situation might not last, however, as a new leak suggests the company is working on an annual summary of your fitness stats to help you better understand your performance over the past 12 months.
The feature is called Garmin Connect Rundown and was first spotted by fitness website the5krunner. There, the outlet claims that Garmin’s feature will use a variety of achievements and categories to quantify your fitness year.
Although it looks similar, it is not the same as the Garmin Connect Annual Data Report. This is a public summary of data aggregated from all Garmin users, and it simply provides averages of what Garmin customers have done. Garmin Connect Rundown, on the other hand, is a private analysis of your own data, meaning it’s much more personalized to your own efforts.
For example, the5krunner says Garmin Connect Rundown will measure your milestones in five sport categories: running, cycling, swimming, strength and parasports. Each has different achievements – running has markers for your 5k, your 10k, your half marathon, your full marathon and your longest run, for example. This should ensure that your progress is recognized in a variety of ways.
There are also more generic contextualizations of your effort, such as distance, altitude, calories burned, time and steps. These are often measured in unusual or light ways, such as saying you’ve burned the equivalent of “847 slices of chocolate cake” or traveled enough distance to cross the English Channel six times.
As for your favorite activity, that gets its own breakdown in which Garmin Connect Rundown goes into more detail. The feature will display your primary activity, the total number of times you have performed an activity of that type, your monthly counts, and your maximum number of pushes per day.
In addition to more vigorous activity, Garmin Connect Rundown also provides insights into your recovery and well-being. This takes the form of your average nightly sleep duration and score, as well as your highest sleep score over the last year. Additionally, your “body battery” statistics are noted, such as average daily load, consumption and high intensity.
Garmin Connect Rundown will likely be available in the Garmin app at some point in the future, although there is no release date yet. It will display its statistics using a combination of graphics and text, while you can share your numbers with friends or on social media.
The best Garmin watches already offer the ability to show you evening and morning reports summarizing the past day’s activities. The Garmin Connect Rundown therefore seems to be a natural extension of this idea. If you can visualize your progress over the past year, it might help you better understand your current fitness level and where it might go in the future.
