Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir on Monday visited Peshawar where he met political leaders of various parties in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to discuss ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.
During the meeting, he stressed that while adversaries may attempt to sow fear and instability, Pakistani security forces will not back down and will respond decisively to any efforts to disrupt peace in the country, Express News reported.
According to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement, General Munir was received by Corps Commander Peshawar on his arrival in the city. He was briefed in detail on the current security situation, including the ongoing counter-terrorism operations against the extremist group “Khawarij” and other threats.
During the visit, the Army Chief praised the sacrifices and determination of the Pakistan Army and law enforcement agencies in the fight against terrorism. He noted that the country’s security forces had achieved exemplary successes in the fight against terrorism, making the nation proud of their efforts.
He highlighted the significant progress made in weakening terrorist groups, with the elimination of key leaders and the destruction of their networks, sending a strong message that there is no place for terrorism in Pakistan. He reassured that this fight will continue to its logical conclusion.
General Munir also praised the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies to protect citizens and maintain law and order. He stressed that many attacks had been foiled, thus contributing to the stability of the country.
The army chief stressed that every operation carried out by the forces demonstrated their commitment, professionalism and preparation.
Addressing political leaders, he delivered a clear message that any attempt to disrupt peace in the country would be met with a decisive and overwhelming response.
He said: “The enemy may try to sow fear and chaos, but we will not back down. We will face the hostile elements with an iron fist and they will suffer significant losses.”
COAS Munir also expressed appreciation for the high morale of Pakistan Army personnel, highlighting their unwavering determination to protect the sovereignty of the nation.
He asserted that the armed forces and law enforcement agencies are united as an invincible force in the country’s fight against terrorism.
After his visit to the military installations, General Munir met political leaders of different parties. The leaders agreed on the need for a unified political voice and public support in the fight against terrorism.
They expressed their unwavering commitment to supporting the armed forces and law enforcement in the nation’s war on terrorism and recognized that defeating extremist ideologies required political unity, cutting across party lines.
