Mason Howell has another year in high school, but he could tell his classmates that he played at the US Open before walking on graduation.
The Georgia High School Junior, 17, qualified for the US Open 2025 at the Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta on Monday after shooting an impressive 18 under two laps. He is also one of the best -classified junior golfers in the country, arriving at n ° 8 on the list of the American Junior Golf Association. However, his feat was remarkable since he was the 496th lover ranked on Monday’s qualification.
“It was one of the greatest moments of my life,” said Howell after his two towers.

The “longest day” is what is called the amateur qualifier, because golfers must play two complete towers to determine who will participate in the 125th edition of the major tournament, which will be held at the Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania this year.
It was certainly an exhausting day, but Howell crossed his 36 holes without putting a bogey on the dashboard, pulling 63 in his two rounds to win his place in the American open field.

Howell finished tied first with Jackson Buchanan, a 22 -year -old Golfer of Illinois, who also qualified for the tournament.

But there were not only amateurs in the qualification field. Masters winner 2007, Zach Johnson, was one of the veterans of the PGA Tour also trying to get on the ground. Only the first five in the ranking can enter Oakmont, and Howell now has tons of momentum before the tournament next week.

Howell comes from Thomasville, Georgia, where he plays for the Brookwood High School Boy golf team, which has won the fourth program title of the program in the past five years last month. Although there is still a year of school before obtaining the diploma, he has already undertaken to stay in the state for the next chapter of his golf career and to play for the Bulldogs of Georgia.
