The New York Giants lost some early momentum in their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles after a turnover was negated thanks to an early whistle on a Jalen Hurts push.

Two plays later, the Eagles took a 14-7 lead on a Hurts touchdown pass to Saquon Barkley. Philadelphia won the game 38-20 and continued its dominance against the Giants at Lincoln Financial Field.

It was passer Kayvon Thibodeaux who snatched the ball from Hurts as the whistle blew to signal the end of the play. Referee Brad Rogers said Hurts’ progress was stopped before Thibodeaux made the play. However, Hurts was still rolling on the court and had not yet touched the ground with any part of his body.

“(The official) said they called the forward before he took the ball out,” Thibodeaux told reporters via ESPN. “That looks like bulls— to me.”

After teammate Brian Burns reminded Thibodeaux that he could be fined for his harsh comments about officiating, he changed his tune and acknowledged that officials had a difficult job.

“Sorry, I mean it was a good call by the refs. You can’t blame the missed calls on anything. I think we didn’t stop the run. They made it 50-50 and they got the better of us,” he added.

Thibodeaux had five tackles, a deflection and a QB hit.

In the last meeting between the two teams, the Eagles ran four straight times for one of their touchdowns. New York ended up winning that game earlier this month.

NFL owners were under pressure to ban the play. It survived a vote that would have banned the call during the offseason. It is expected to be reviewed next year.
