- Gigabyte published the external GPU Aorus RTX 5090 AI, built for AI tasks and portable games
- It will include Thunderbolt 5 and USB 4 ports
- The price is not yet announced
Nvidia does not slow down with its RTX 5000 Series range, with the GPUs of RTX 5000 Super Series which would have launched this fall this fall, surely adding to the list of the best GPUs on the market – and now, one of the partners of the board of directors of Team Green took advantage of the flagship GPU of Blackwell, with a new tool built to allow the AI tasks and the portable game of Blackwell.
As reported by our friends from PC Gamer, Gigabyte published the external GPU Aorus RTX 5090, which is now called “ Ai ”, targeting creativity with more than 3000 AI peaks. This can be used on laptops and other laptops (even pocket computers) via its Thunderbolt 5 and USB 4 ports, considerably increasing performance for games and AI.
For PC players, this is undoubtedly exaggerated, because a laptop RTX 5080 or RTX 5070 is more than enough to produce major performance results on several titles; After examining previously the Vector A18 HX A9W MSI and currently testing an MSI system fueled by RTX 5070, I can safely say that what you need for great performance on a laptop.
Now, it is worth emphasizing that it is an EGPU built to empower the scenarios with high intensity AI, and it has its own liquid cooling configuration inside a mini chassis, which could make you make a double socket because it could easily pass as a mini-Itx office construction. Anyway, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX brand will always draw the attention of PC players – and it is an EGPU you probably don’t need.
No price is announced at the moment, but you can certainly expect it to cost more than the discreet RTX 5090 office counterpart and other predefined play PCs. The low -end external GPUs are already expensive, so it is reasonable that prices soar when you use the best GPU on the market.
Analysis: you better buy a desktop platform or a laptop game instead
Unless you already have a powerful game or a professional laptop for creativity, or you have room to make follies, I would not suggest buying this. I have been curious about the EGPUS for some time, in particular with the way in which they would have an impact on the performances of the PC play by hand, but certainly not with a RTX 5090.
I can see how it can be a good alternative to travel with an office platform; The speaker is essentially a mini-it-itx case, so it is much more portable and seems to be less subject to damage when you break your suitcase through conveyor belts. Again, a small laptop of play is the perfect answer to that, and if you needed the AI power of RTX 5090, you can buy a desktop platform.
An excellent example would be the Asus Rog Zephyrus G14 [2025] I tested, with its slim 14 inch display and its light construction, fueled by the RTX 5070 Ti. It’s great for AI games and tasks, and £ 2,699 £ 4,999 at the price, it will be almost less expensive than the new Gigabyte AI box.
There are many ways to get the most out of AI and Games via Nvidia’s Blackwell range, but I don’t think the Aorus RTX 5090 box is one of them – given at least what I expect it to cost it.
