Islamabad:
The president of the Senate, Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, refused to chair the meetings of the Chamber until his order to present the incarcerated legislator of PTI Ejaz Chaudhary is respected.
Gillani, January 13, made a production prescription for Chaudhry which has been imprisoned for 18 months, so that he could attend the Senate session scheduled for January 14.
However, the legislator was not presented to the House by the authorities of the Kot Lakhpat prison of Lahore in violation of the production order, provoking a demonstration by the Senators of the PTI.
Speaking in the House, the minister of Law, Azam Nazeer Tarar, had then suggested that the case should be taken over in the chamber’s advisory committee and the negotiation committee.
According to sources, the president of the Senate has now decided not to preside over the Chamber to protest against non-compliance with his order.
Express News reported that Gillani was present in his room in Parliament on Friday, but he did not chair the room procedure and the vice-president presided over the Chamber.
Sources have said that Gillani, who belongs to the PPP, clearly said that he would only return to the House when his orders are implemented and that senator Ejaz Chaudhary will be presented to the Chamber.
