The World Athletics Council announced Wednesday that athletes wishing to participate in female categories at the world championships are necessary to undergo a “unique test” for eligibility.

The test will be for the SRY gene, “a reliable proxy to determine biological sex” with a cheaper pad or a blood test, the organization said in a press release.

“The philosophy that we are dear in world athletics is the protection and promotion of the integrity of female sport. It is really important in a sport that definitively tries to attract more women than they enter into a sport believing that there is no biological glass ceiling. The test to confirm biological sex is a very important step to ensure that this is the case,” said the president of the world of athletics.

“We say, at the level of the elite, so that you can participate in the female category, you must be biologically feminine. It was always very clear for me and the world athletics council that gender cannot prevail over biology.”

The organization announced the potential test in March, when Coe said that the tests were “necessary” to protect female sports.

The specific gene “provides instructions to make a protein called protein Y of the sex determination region. This protein is involved in the development of male sex, which generally follows a certain diagram based on an individual’s chromosomes”, according to Medline Plus.

Coe, who was in the running to become the head of the International Olympic Committee, said in November The Olympic Games needed a clear policy to protect female sports.

World athletics, the Director of Athletics Sports around the world, has tightened its regulations On trans athletes To exclude transgender women who have crossed the male puberty of competition in the female category.

Since the organization has decided on these tests months ago, the NCAA was faced with calls to implement similar protocols. NCAA has changed its requirements on transgender athletes who participate in female sports shortly after President Donald Trump signed a decree.

Trump signed the executive decree “No Men in Women’s Sports” in February to prevent organic men from playing in the sports of girls and women. NCAA said that a “student-athlete assigned to birth may not compete in a female team”.

The previous policy, which had been in place in 2010, allowed biological men to participate in the category of women after having undergone at least one year of treatment for the abolition of testosterone.
