- Google has upgraded its AI mode with advanced Gemini 2.5 Pro
- AI mode has also added in-depth research, which can now carry out hundreds of background research
- A new call tool integrated for research allows companies to call Google on your behalf
Google continues to try to use your AI mode during online search with new improved AI tools. The conversational search tool has rendered the Gemini 2.5 Pro AI model of Google available in AI mode, as well as the deep search for the long report writing tool.
Google AI Pro and Ai Ultra subscribers in the United States which are also part of the AI mode experience in research laboratories will now see an option to choose Gemini 2.5 Pro when asking difficult questions.
It is the same heavyweight model behind the most advanced AI tools of Google. They will also have the possibility of using Deep Search, a functionality available in the ordinary Gemini application which can simultaneously perform hundreds of research and will write a report gathering the information.
The deepest changes are however in the way research itself evolves. Gemini 2.5 Pro does not only the answers. He reasons. He explains mathematics in full steps. He even writes code and tells you what this code does. And when associated with deep research, it can mainly lead a research marathon in your name.
Ai calling
The new call feature for research is something completely different. He connects your search for information on a store to a telephone call with AI. As Google shows it in a demo, you can type “pets for pets near me” and ask for information that is not immediately accessible.
Instead, you can press “Google call for you”, which will encourage Google to call local stores, ask you questions about availability or prices, then send SMS or by sending results directly. If it looks like Google Duplex, it is because Google duplex technology propels it.
Of course, all of this comes with some asterisks such as having to pay for a subscription. Free users still get limited AI call attempts, but AI advanced fashion tools are reserved for paid customers.
Google’s advantage on other AI developers is the size of its research database, so even if Openai and others are trying to produce similar products, Google could have a lasting advantage. However, there is a learning curve.
The AI that is too fast can cause problems. You do not want your research assistant to jump out credible sources in favor of a Reddit wire with 38 UP votes. And you certainly do not want your AI calling the bad person to plan a colonoscopy.
