Google can be about to replace its default option of traditional search results with its IA mode. At least that is what Google Lead’s product manager Logan Kilpatrick alluded when he responded to the suggestion on X.
The AI mode mixed gemini ai from Google with real -time search for direct conversational responses instead of the familiar list of links. AI mode is a tab in Google Search and has just received a dedicated home page on Google.com/ai, which contributes to the credibility of Kilpatrick’s comments.
The change could have enormous consequences on how people find information online and for websites that count on Google to send them traffic. The publishers have already reported decreases due to the previews of the Google AI, which often answer user questions directly without obliging them to click on another site. If AI mode becomes the default value, these effects can only grow.
Google Search vice-president Robby Stein quickly tried to calm people concerned about such a change. In his own post X, he wrote that he “would not read too much.
However, this proves to be vague enough to cover any movement to modify the default value. You can say that the writing is already on the wall (from the home page). Google has increased exposure to its AI services for months. The features are filtering via Google Labs, but since then, the IA previews and the IA mode have become global, and Google has reported tens of millions of AI AI mode active users this summer. The way Google deals with IA mode is the next great thing, not just a secondary project.
AI fashion for all
If AI mode becomes the default value, you may not notice a lot of changes at first. You will just see the synthesized answer as a much more important part of the page, with links relegated to a matt panel. The long -term response is more complicated because it is also a massive change in the way information moves to the web below the surface.
Traditional Google research is the basis of websites to discover. The links for everything, from media and recipe blogs to independent filmmakers and government services are counting on visible in Google research, including the way they provide money to these websites. Research has shown that IA previews have harmed traffic to websites.
Google is the Internet front door for billions of people. If they change the doormat, you can’t really go elsewhere. Of course, there are alternatives between search engines, but there is a reason why the verb in search of something online is google and not bing.
For the moment, you can stick to classic search, but it may not be an option forever. AI mode happens, and Google will try to make it the basis of how people are looking for things online. The way it will do it may require a little more, maybe ask DuckduckGo first.
