Gemini replaces Google Assistant everywhere, including the Google Home app, although the change hasn’t exactly been smooth and seamless. Google has now released a new set of answers to questions users have during deployment.
As spotted by Android Authority, the new forum post mainly discusses when Gemini for Home will go live. According to Google, it will be aimed at users in the United States first, then to other markets starting in the first quarter of 2026 (in other words, sometime before the end of March 2026).
Google further adds that the rollout is based on homes and not accounts, which is important for people who manage multiple homes – each of those homes will be upgraded separately as the Gemini update spreads further and further.
In the same forum post, Google also encourages user feedback on Gemini for Home, as it gets established: You can simply say “ok Google, send feedback” near one of your smart speakers or displays, then share your thoughts. There are more details here.
Get your place in line
According to the recently revised FAQ page, there’s no way to guarantee you’ll be next in line for Gemini for Home – you just need to be patient. That said, you need to sign up for early feature access to be considered as part of the first wave of updates.
You should also make sure your home address is up to date in the Google Home app, as addresses help manage deployment. Tap your account photo (top right), then choose Manage your Google account And Personal information to make changes.
The forum post also mentions positive feedback from early adopters of Gemini for Home. Apparently it’s a “massive improvement”, “game changer” and “brilliant” – although we suspect there’s been quite a bit of negative feedback as well.
When the Gemini update comes to you, it should work on Google’s 10-year-old smart home devices. The basics of AI will be available for free, but if you want advanced features of Gemini, then you will have to pay for a Google Home Premium subscription.
