- Pixel phones could soon support the themes, according to the new code
- It allows customizations to be applied faster
- Functionality can happen with Android 16
After presenting the main update on Google I / O 2025 earlier this month, Google is ready to launch Android 16 in the coming days, at least with regard to Pixel phones – and it seems that Pixel devices are also online for a major personalization upgrade.
The Android Authority team has identified evidence of a function of hidden pixel themes in the code of the last Android 16 Beta. Although the functionality is not yet online, it seems that it is close to completion.
Many other Android handsets, including the best Samsung Galaxy phones, already offer themes: they allow you to group wallpapers, color schemes and icon packs in a single package, and you can then apply them with a single tap.
It seems that the themes would be available via the current wallpaper and lock screen settings on pixel phones, available via the Wallpaper and style Section in the settings. It would also be a fairly large option, based on the existing code.
Future?
It is not clear if you will be able to see a gallery of themes provided by Google and perhaps other users, as well as the creation of your own personalization combinations. On Samsung phones, there is a large gallery of theme options to choose.
Another question that we have is whether this feature will be ready in time for the official version of Android 16 Stable: the rumor is that we could see that Tuesday, June 3, although this is not yet confirmed.
Google may wait for a subsequent Android 16 version before postponing the themes and making them available for pixel owners. Other Android telephony manufacturers will then be able to use (or not to use) the Google theme code as they wish.
The upcoming changes we know in Android 16 include better monitoring of battery health (for more recent pixels), improved safety features and a renovated and more modern look for the interface called Material 3 expressive.
