- Google messages now has an option delete for everyone
- The functionality now takes place for Android phone users
- This will only work for your RCS messages
Have you ever sent an SMS that you regret instantly and want it to be erased? Well, Google Messages finally gives users the possibility of deleting messages from everyone’s devices – including the phones that received it.
This feature is in the hands of the beta testers of Google messages since May – and it was in fact spotted for the first time in the application code in February (via Android Authority) – but now it happens to the full global version of the application.
What this means for users of Google Messages is when you want to delete a message you have sent – and discuss with someone who uses the application via RCS – you will see two options: delete for me or delete for everyone.
To find this menu, press and hold a message, then select the trash icon at the top of your screen. You will also see the option to copy or star the message if you prefer to highlight your error.
The application notes that messages can still be seen by people performing older versions of the application, and the texts sent to someone who will not be on RCS will not be deleted.
I quickly gave the functionality a test on my Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, sending SMS and deleting messages to my fiancée, and it works as a charm.
As with other services, our two deadlines show a “deleted message” bubble where my text was.
Although someone can always see the text if he reacts faster than you can delete – you will see that my messages have been answered before you can erase them – so although the deletion of a message can be practical, it does not beat never to make mistakes in the first place.
