Getting an update from the television operating system sometimes gives the impression of going to a restaurant where the chef is a psychopath: your dish will come with the best ingredients cooked to perfection, but there will be something inexpressible in addition to your steak. The Android 16 update for Google TV seems a bit like that.
The update, to come on Google TV this year, will bring Android 16 to supported televisions and will include very useful improvements. This will also understand what could be completely irritating.
What to expect from the update of Google TV Android
One of the new most important features is the management of Eclipsa Audio, the highly anticipated rival of Dolby Atmos promoted by Google and Samsung. He will arrive on YouTube to start, and companies hope that it will be adopted by the broader industry like another immersive audio option.
Another useful new addition is the mediaqualitymanager, which is designed to give streaming applications the possibility of modifying the settings of your TV. This is an equivalent to the system scale with specific application features such as the video calibrated mode Prime, which currently allows owners of certain Sony Bravia televisions to automatically optimize their television parameters for video broadcast or the privileged film they monitor – it will therefore change the brightness, color temperature and smoothing of movements.
Having available in the operating system should mean more streaming applications offering a calibration option, and calibration available on more televisions.
The Gemini AI assistant by Google will take place on Google TV in the fall, allowing you to request film recommendations or get information about your TV.
There is also a visual refreshment, the update providing the latest iteration of the Google interface, called Material 3 expressive. It is not a huge overhaul, but it is a clearer and more modern look.
These are the first four, and Google says that there will also be various improvements in media management, including reading speed, consistency and efficiency, and there will also be an improvement in HDMI-CEC reliability. And this will bring Google TV on Android XR, it is a virtual / augmented reality platform, so application developers will be able to provide their applications on the platform effortlessly (although some, like Netflix, are likely to withdraw).
The chocolate bar in the Android TV updates pool is the arrival of pop-up rating requests. Do you know these boring “note this application” windows on your phone? Google also allows applications for applications to bring them to your TV.
There is not yet a release date for Android TV 16, and as always with this type of update, some manufacturers are likely to deploy it faster than others.
As soon as we know likely launch dates, we will let you know. You can see the full list of features and changes to the Android developer website. (via flatpanelhd)
