- The Google TV Home application code describes the timers and notifications
- Android TV already has a sleep timer, but it’s not great or easy to find
- It is at the start of the stadiums, so do not expect it to be imminent
If you’ve already fallen asleep during a binge television show only to be roughly awake by an automatic game trailer or to realize that you have missed a piece of episodes, the idea of a decent stopwatch on Google TV could be quite interesting. Well, here is good news: it seems that Google works exactly on this.
The news occurs via Android Authority, which likes nothing but diving in the beta code to see what useful information to discover. And this time, channels and references to sleep is discovered in the Google TV Home application, which is the main interface of Google TV.
To which to expect sleep timer in Google TV
The Google Application Code suggests that the sleeping dealer will be more than the basic one in Android TV, which does not support break functionalities and resume. And the code also indicates that there will be timer warnings at different intervals – “x minutes until the TV is turning off” – and perhaps the possibility of replacing the timer by asking for a little more time.
This last feature is a bit mysterious, because one of the lines of code describes a “sleep_timer_45_second_notification_ction”. It’s a strange choice of time – as Android Authority says, why not do it at a minute?
Currently, these are only indices rather than actual work features, but they are nevertheless an encouraging sign: for the moment, manufacturers create (or do not create) their own timer, while operating functionality in the basic operating system would mean a coherent experience on the entire Google TV platform.
This should also make the feature much easier to find, because where companies offer an Android sleep timer, they tend to bury it in the darkest corners of the settings menu.
