Google’s Gemini 3 aims for AI supremacy with PhD-level reasoning

Google ushered in a new era for its AI ambitions with the launch of Gemini 3, which it calls its “smartest model” yet.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai officially made the announcement, reflecting a major step in the company’s quest for advanced AI capable of rivaling human reasoning.

The flagship model, Gemini 3 Pro, is now available in the Gemini app and for the first time, the company has integrated it directly into Google Search on day one.

Developers can also access it through AI Studio and Vertex AI. The model is capable of cutting-edge reasoning, designed to capture death and the nuances of complex problems.

Google claims that it significantly outperforms its predecessor, namely Gemini 2.5 Pro, in major benchmark tests, achieving top scores in areas such as reasoning and doctoral-level mathematics.

A major improvement to this model is the abandonment of “flattery” or “cliché”.

Rather, Gemini 3 is designed to provide concise, direct and authentic insight, acting as a “true thinking partner”.

It also allows users to learn complex topics through interactive visualizations, create richer applications by following “dynamic coding”, and plan multi-step tasks with improved long-term planning.

In addition to the standard Pro model, Google has introduced “Gemini 3 Deep Think”, an improved reasoning model that delivers even more improved results.

Specifically for developers, the company unveiled a new agent development platform called “Google Antigravity” that uses Gemini 3 to autonomously plan and execute complex software tasks.

The company also claims that this is its most secure model to date, saying that Gemini 3 has undergone extensive security evaluations.

The rollout begins immediately, marking the next chapter in Google’s rapidly accelerating AI roadmap.
