National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has called a meeting of the negotiating committees representing the government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) at 11:30 am on Thursday at Parliament.
According to a statement from the President’s office, the meeting will take place in Committee Room 5 and will be held behind closed doors. The PTI is expected to present its written demands during the session.
The meeting date was revised from January 15 to January 16 following requests from committee members. “The change was made after consultations with members from both sides,” said President Ayaz Sadiq.
Sources confirm that contacts between the government and the PTI have resumed recently. Former President Asad Qaiser reportedly discussed the negotiation process with Ayaz Sadiq over the phone, agreeing on a date for the next meeting.
This is the first formal interaction between PTI representatives and the speaker after consultations with PTI leaders, including its founder.
The speaker helped the PTI delegation meet party chief Imran Khan at Adiala jail to discuss negotiation strategies. PTI committee spokesperson Sahibzada Hamid Raza stressed that the party demanded a judicial inquiry into the May 9 and November 26 incidents.
“We have given the government until January 31 to announce the investigation. Otherwise, the negotiations could succeed,” he warned.
The negotiation process marks an effort to resolve current political tensions, with the two sides having already held two rounds of negotiations without any significant progress.
