The Minister of Sindh of Livestock and Fisheries Muhammad Ali Malkani said that the provincial government took all the necessary measures to increase seafood exports and is in contact with the federal government in this regard.
Speaking during the question time of the Sindh Assembly on Tuesday, Malkani answered various written and additional questions of the members. He informed the assembly that there are several hatching in the Sindh for fish farming, where the seeds are sown. “We free fish seeds in rivers at government level.” He said efforts are made to meet the standards established by the European Union to raise the ban on seafood exports, in particular for shrimp and fish.
Malkani said that those who have created fabric export factories receive assistance, but no subsidy is given.
The main minister Sharjeel Inam Memon asked Vice-President Naved Anthony to resolve the question of certain members asking unrelevant questions. Memon noted that there are existing rules to ask questions in the absence of a member.
Dr. Fauzia Hameed of MQM referred to the deplorable state of the colonies of the fishermen, urging the government to take note of it. Aijaz Haq also stressed that the boats of poor fishermen flow, and the government does not provide any installation to help them. Abdul Waseem of MQM asked questions about the legal action taken against those who use prohibited nets for fishing.
In response, Muhammad Ali Malkani said that even if measures were taken, the ministry does not have enough resources. He also recognized the absence of cold storage facilities, but assured that the ministry will help fishermen in this regard. Has in collaboration with community organizations.
Meanwhile, parliamentary journalists have made their voices heard in the Assembly, protesting against the amendment to prevention of electronic crimes (PECA) and demanded its withdrawal.
