Govt launches discussions on the controversy of the channels

Sukkur / Khairpur:

The government has launched face -to -face talks with Sindh stakeholders concerning the issue of industrial canals. On Wednesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met chief minister Murad Ali Shah, while a delegation from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) went by protesting lawyers from Babarloi, Khairpur district.

According to Express News, Shah met Shehbaz at the Prime Minister’s house, where he expressed his concerns about the proposed construction of six new channels on the Industry River. Sources said the two parties shared their respective positions on the issue.

Earlier in the day, the president of the Sindh of PML-N Sindh, Bashir Memon, visited the Protestant lawyers who had blocked the national road in Babarloi, Khairpur, and had interviews with the president of the Karachi Bar Association (KBA), Aamir Nawaz Warraich and other leaders of the lawyers in order to end the whistle.

The latest development is considered to be monitoring of the contacts initiated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on political affairs with various political parties to combat generalized demonstrations across the Sindh. Memon and Rana Sana contacted the chairman of the Sindh bar council, Barrister Sarfaraz Metlo, by phone, offering to initiate the dialogue. Rana Sanaullah also spoke with the Sindh’s main minister, Sharjeel Memon and various leaders of the nationalist party.

According to sources. Lawyers presented four requests to representatives of the federal government, the cancellation of the channel project being the absolute priority.

Other requests included concerns about business agriculture, Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and the 26th constitutional amendment. The PML-N delegation invited lawyers to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The lawyer accepted the offer and a delegation of 14 members would meet Shehbaz, it was agreed. “Our key request is the issue of a notification of withdrawal from the channel project. Our sit-in will continue until it happens. It would be ideal if the Prime Minister comes to Sukkur for talks,” said Warraich.

Memon said he received the list of four lawyers from lawyers, which would be presented to the Prime Minister. “The next meeting will be held directly between the lawyers and the Prime Minister, where all the questions will be resolved,” he said, expressing hope for a positive result.

Meanwhile, the functional leader of the PML, Sardar Abdul Rahim, told journalists in Ranipur that Memon had visited the protest site with a message from his party leadership. “The legal fraternity has replied clearly: to cancel the channel project, to issue the notification, then we will speak,” he said.
