Govt provides a steep hike in traffic fines

Lahore:

The Punjab government finalizes a scan proposal aimed at revising traffic penalties in the province, certain fines that should increase as much as ten times.

This decision, initiated under the directives of chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aims to limit the increase in road violations and improve public security.

According to SSP Traffic Ghazanfar Ali Shah, current offenses such as driving without headphones, driving against traffic and driving without a valid permit will now wear proposed fines of RS2,000.

“The ex-destructure has been in place since 2006 and is no longer effective in today’s traffic environment. A revision is essential to improve road discipline,” he said, adding that the fines updated will be applied immediately once approved.

In response to increasing concerns concerning traffic violations, the Punjab traffic authorities have intensified operations against drivers without license.

More than 178,000 Challans were issued this month only for driving without a license, Lahore representing more than 70,000 cases.

Additional traffic by Inspector General (AIG), Mirza Farhan Baig, asked all regional circulation units to adopt a zero tolerance approach to non -dismissed motorists.

“No mercy will be shown. Citizens must obtain appropriate licenses to ensure their safety and avoid penalties,” he said.

In another major development, the district police have been authorized to help recover unpaid e-challans.

With more than 6 billion rupees of pending contributions, the failed to face home raids and potential restrictions on vehicle transfers, registrations and other official processes.
