‘Chapter of talks with the government now closed’
In January of this year, the founder of PTI incarceration, Imran Khan, made his negotiations with the government because of his inability to constitute judicial commissions to probe on May 9, 2023 riots as well as the events from November 24 to November 27, 2024, with regard to the party’s demonstration in Islamabad.
Negotiations between the Government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the PTI began in late December from last year in an effort to mitigate political tensions. The PTI, however, canceled the talks with the government after holding three sessions.
In February of this year, the PTI chief, Omar Ayub Khan, excluded the possibility of resumption of dialogue between the former ruling party and the outgoing government.
“The market chapter is now closed,” said Ayub, adding that political negotiations were not based on simple wishes but required firm commitments, which the government has not demonstrated.
The PTI chief said that the committee of his party had initiated discussions in good faith, but that the other side did not display good will or intention.
The PTI, which also presented its written charter for requests, refused to attend the fourth cycle of talks citing the government’s failure to form a judicial commission to investigate the riots of May 9 and the demonstrations of November 2024.
