Pakistan Heritage Day was marked for the first time in Gracie Mansion, the official residence of the mayor of New York.
The ceremony brought together the mayor of New York, Eric Adams, senior officials of the city and the State, diplomats, political leaders and a large number of members of the Pakistan-American community. The permanent representative of Pakistan at the United Nations, the Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, and the Pakistan Consul General in New York Aamed Ahmed Atozai represented Pakistan on occasion. A moment of silence was observed for the victims of recent floods in Pakistan.

Speaking on occasion, Ambassador Ahmad congratulated the community for the 78th day of Pakistan’s independence and praised his role in strengthening Pakistani relations. He reiterated that Pakistan was fully able to defend its sovereignty while continuing to work for peace, progress and international cooperation.

The consul general Atozai thanked the mayor Adams for recognizing the contributions of the Pakistan-American community. He said that the inheritance of Pakistan was not only rooted in the independence of 1947 but also in its ancient civilizations, its pluralist traditions and its cultural wealth.
The mayor Adams, in his remarks, congratulated the American Pakistani community for the day of independence of Pakistan and praised their contributions to the social, cultural and economic fabric of the city. He reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to engage with the world communities, in particular the Pakistani diaspora

The event ended with expressions of gratitude to the mayor’s office for international affairs, led by Commissioner Aissata Camara, and a reaffirmation of the lasting friendship between Pakistan and the United States.
