- Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier said it was “hard to say” whether Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released this year
- “It’s an important and complicated match and the last time we heard, the content was still not complete,” he said.
- Rockstar Games is currently targeting a November 19 release date
The much awaited Grand Theft Auto 6 After all, it might not come out this year, because it’s apparently not “full content” yet.
This comes from Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, who was speaking on the latest episode of gaming podcast Button Mash. “That’s how Rockstar works,” he said in response to a question about the likelihood of the game releasing on its November 19, 2026 release date.
“With Dead red [Redemption] 2 […] they announced it for the fall of 2017, and then it slipped to the spring of 2018. Then it slipped again to the fall of 2018 and there it landed in October of the same year, so I wouldn’t be very shocked if that’s what happened again,” he explained.
“It’s a big, complicated game and last I heard, the content still wasn’t complete – that is, people were still finishing things, finalizing levels and missions, and seeing what was going to make it into the game.”
He then described the “typical” game development process, which is divided into distinct phases of “feature completed,” “content completed,” and “bug testing.” He adds that while the boundaries are sometimes blurry, he hopes they’ll be “over it soon” and ideally have enough time to work on fixing the bugs.
“It’s really hard to say [if GTA 6 will release on November 19]”, he concludes. “It’s really hard to say at the moment, and I don’t think anyone at Rockstar can tell you with 100 percent certainty that they’ll get through this in November.”
Does this mean the game will be delayed again? Schreier offers some hope in his later suggestions that this current release date seems “more real” than previous ones.
Ultimately, we’ll just have to wait and see if Rockstar can get everything ready by November.
