More than a dozen people, including women and children, were injured when an excess speed bus overturned near the Razzaqabad police training center in the Shah Latif region on Friday, following a reckless attempt to overtake an oil tanker on the national motorway, Express News reported.

According to rescue managers, the incident occurred when the oil tanker constantly horny and puts pressure on the bus from behind in an apparent attempt to pass. In response, the bus driver accelerated but lost control of the vehicle, which left the road and hit a path.

The impact has thrown several passengers from their seats, many of whom have undergone head injuries after hitting the bus accessories.

The volunteers of the Edhi Sajid Pathan and Abid Rasheed Foundation said that the bus was carrying members of a family from the city of Orangi, who was on the way to Lake Kalri for a picnic.

While many initially refused medical assistance, the police and the rescuers convinced them to receive first aid. At least six passengers with more serious injuries were transported to a neighboring hospital.

The wounded and led to the hospital were identified as Mukhtar Ahmed (48), Mehtashim Hussain (25), Naveed Hussain (18), Azeem Shakir (20), Naqqashash (20), Gulshan (26), Farhan (30), his sister Sehr (20), the Cadet Arman (17) and their father Qadir Hussain (58).

A number of passenger women have refused to be transported to hospital and rather asked to go home. The police said that the oil tanker driver had managed to flee the premises and had not yet been traced. A case is likely to be recorded.

The incident highlights the growing dangers of non-regulated trade and reckless driving on the main arteries of Karachi, especially on weekends and holidays when family outings become more frequent.

Last year, a similar tragedy took place in the Mauripur region, where seven picnickers – including three children – were killed and 14 others injured after a cabotkor collided with a trailer and overturned. This accident also involved families heading for a picnic.
