- Pilou Asbaek described what fans can expect from his bad guy Foundation Season 3
- The mule is an incredibly powerful antagonist who threatens the Empire and the Foundation
- The newcomer of the series also revealed why it is so fun to play mean characters
Foundation Season 3 will present the most terrifying villain of the show to date in the mule – and actor Pilou Asbaek has teased what viewers can expect from his point of view on the favorite antagonist of fans.
Addressing Techradar before FoundationThe return of July 11, Asbaek revealed that his version of the character will in a way be a departure from the way he represented in the original book of books by Isaac Asimov.
In Asimov’s best -selling novels, the mule is an individual of weeds who prove that the looks can be deceived. Indeed, the mule is one of the most powerful mentals – humans who have incredibly powerful psychic capacities – to live in the fictional universe of Asimov. Due to his weak appearance, he is constantly underestimated by his enemies, which allows him to conquer large expanses of the galaxy before the Imperium or the Foundation could bring together a response to the increasing threat it poses.
The mule retains its telepathic superpowers in the live adaptation of Apple. But, as Foundation The official trailer for season 3 revealed that he is a much physically more imposing character than in books.
“It must be a great immediate threat to the Empire and the Foundation,” said Asbaek of the decision to make the mule larger and more muscular in the Opera of Apple TV + Space. “So he is physically different. He is a fairly large and wide guy who is also more collar, brutal and rude he has described in the brilliant books of Asimov.”
The modified construction of the mule is less a surprise when you think back to last season. As I covered myself in my Foundation Explained part of season 2, the mule makes a brief cameo before the final of the final credits of the final. The confusing bad guy, who was played in this scene by Mikael Persbrandt before being replaced by Asbaek as part of an upheaval of season 3, was also large. So there is a certain continuity between the iterations of Persbrandt and Asbaek of the character from a physical point of view.
Nevertheless, Asbaek is well aware that some longtime fans of Asimov’s literary works could express the way the mule is represented in one of the best programs of Apple TV +. Unsurprisingly, he has already prepared for any potential.
“I made some adaptations – Ghost in the shell And Game of Thrones (Obtained), for example-so I followed this path, “he thought.” I know that some people will love it [my take on The Mule] And some will not, but it’s my job to do the best possible version in collaboration with the creative team.
“I did not know that Mikael had done it, but I knew the show and what I wanted to bring to the character,” he added. “It’s the same thing as someone who adapts to a shakespearean room. We have seen a million different versions of HamletSo it’s just my interpretation of the mule. “”

To watch
As for the way the mule differs from ObtainedEuron Grayjoy, the little kind and greedy character that Asbaek played in one of the best HBO Max shows, or any other villain he has played, Asbaek said: “He is probably the most human that I have ever played. He has the biggest scenario that I had with the fact of playing a villain, but he is also the most chaotic, a tortured soul. [that’s the case].
“In the end, he is just a little boy who wants to be loved,” said Asbaek. “I was very inspired by the French novel” The Little Prince “. This is also the reason why he [The Mule] Wears a red coat, because I wanted to look like the little prince, who comes to our world because he wants to know what it is human and to have emotions. This is the only thing that the mule does not have. It is unique of its kind and, throughout this season, you will discover what is happening when it does not get what it wants. “”
