Help victims of accidents without fear of legal problems: IG

Karachi:

The Sindh police inspector General Ghulam Nabi Memon expressed a deep concern in the face of the public’s failure to help assistant professor Szabiste Iftikhar Ahmed after a tragic road accident in the Shrafi Goth region of Malir.

The incident, captured on mobile telephony videos which then circulated on social networks, showed the victim trapped under a trailer, receiving no immediate assistance from passers -by.

According to a statement published by police spokesperson Syed Saad Ali, Ig Memon said that a precious life could have been saved if the injured teacher had received a timely medical care. “Helping victims of accidents is not only a humanitarian act – it is a moral, legal and religious obligation for each citizen,” said the IG.

He stressed that excessive bleeding, critical injuries and unnecessary delays often cause deaths that could otherwise be prevented. “Do not leave the fear of legal complications to prevent you from helping,” he urged. “Saving a life is like saving all humanity – it’s not just a good action, it’s an act of faith.”

The IG also said that staying passive or silent in the face of such emergencies is unacceptable. “Each life is important. Intensify and act-don’t be a silent witness,” he said.

Ensuring total support for the application of civic laws and agencies, he said that citizens who help the wounded are heroes and will be treated with respect and protection. “Police and civil agencies cannot assume their responsibilities without active public support,” he added. “Even a little effort can save a life – so make this step without hesitation.”

The declaration comes after viral images have shown that Professor Iftikhar Ahmed is trapped between the wheels of a trailer after an accident. The lack of immediate aid aroused a generalized indicative and caused this public call for the best cop in the province.
