An oil tanker collided with a motorcycle late Saturday evening, killing two from a family and wounding another shopping center near Karachi. The incident triggered the indignation with a crowd that set fire to seven fire vehicles, which prompted the Dumper Truck Association to close Super Highway and block the routes of Sohrab Goth in Thitta.

The head of the Dumper Truck association, Liaquat Mehsud, said their protest was in response to the influence of Dumper Trucks by the crowd. He criticized the Sindh government for imposing restrictions on the morning truck movement at 10 p.m. and said he was detrimental to industry.

He said that the authorities are now competing for a complete ban on the Dumper truck operations and confirmed that all the operational points had been closed to protest.

Officials warned that if the blockade was continuing, the city’s traffic system could face serious disturbances as tensions remain high.

In total, 546 people lost their lives and 8,136 suffered serious injuries in traffic accidents in the city during the current year. Heavy vehicles were responsible for 165 of fatal accidents involving trailers.

A major factor contributing to the high number of deaths is the reckless driving of heavy vehicles.
