Honor has announced a commitment to provide seven years of Android operating system and security updates of its latest Magic Series aircraft, including The Honor Magic 7 Pro.
This decision brings the manufacturer of online booming smartphones with Apple, Samsung and Google, which provide all seven years of software and safety updates to their respective flagship smartphones (Apple promises at least five years of updates, but the company regularly tends to previous generation iphones beyond this period).
Previously, the combined of honor were generally supported by five years of updates. The best honor phones of 2024 – namely the Honor Magic 6 Pro, Honor Magic V3 and Honor 200 pro – will remain subject to this original commitment, the Magic 7 Pro, recently published, becoming the first beneficiary of the new position of the company.
“By guaranteeing long -term updates on software and security, Honor offers owners of the magic series the confidence that their devices will remain up to date, secure and rich in functionality – maximizing the value of their investment and extending the lifespan of the devices,” said Honor in the declaration accompanying the announcement, which was made at the MWC 2025.
It is therefore clear that this decision is as much an exposure of faith of honor in the longevity of its smartphone equipment as it is a commitment to sustainability (it aligns the brand with the circular economy of the EU and the Ecodesign regulations).
Do smartphones need seven years of updates?
The answer to this question A, I think, changed since Apple began to offer seven years of updates to its iPhones (Google and Samsung have started to do it more recently) – although I suspect that OnePlus would have disagree.
Unlike these brands (and now in the spotlight), OnePlus has committed to offer four years of updates to the operating system and six years of security corrections to its latest flagship device, the OnePlus 13, with OnePlus Coo Kinder Liu saying in an interview in 2024, longer policies of update “Miss the Point” if the material they apply becomes exceeded. Of course, this can be read as an autonomous (that is to say the intake that the OnePlus phones will not last as long as rival models), but the Liu point contains water for a certain generation of phones: an iPhone XR of six years, for example, can technically execute iOS 18, but that does not mean that it does so well.
Of course, a Honor Magic 7 Pro is not an iPhone XR; His chipset Elite Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 and his 12 GB RAM will undoubtedly give it a longevity that the phones of yesteryear simply do not have. That said, I don’t think the honor expects anyone who In fact Wait for the same phone for seven years – it is more a case of the company that aligns with the big boys so that it cannot be criticized for not having done so.
However, the more updates, the more the joyful. Offering such a possible update support, can only be a good thing for consumers, provided that the equipment in question can indeed be up to invoicing in seven years. Return to us in 2032.
