House linked to Denny Hamlin catches fire, leaves one dead

At least one person was killed and another seriously injured in a North Carolina house fire linked to NASCAR star Denny Hamlin, officials said Monday.

The fire broke out at a Stanley home around 6 p.m. ET on Sunday, prompting emergency responses from Gaston and Lincoln counties, according to Queen City News.

A firefighter on site said everyone was out of the house by the time paramedics arrived on scene. Two people were rushed to hospital. The identities of the victims were not immediately identified.

“We are grateful for the response from multiple agencies and ask the public to pray for the affected family and our fire, EME and police first responders,” the Lucia-Bend Fire Department said in a statement to the news outlet.

The house is connected to Hamlin’s family, according to property records. Hamlin is listed as the director of the real estate company that owns the home. The house is owned by his parents, according to WCNC-TV.

Firefighters said the house was completely destroyed, as it took about two hours for the fire to be extinguished.

Hamlin is a decorated NASCAR driver. He has 60 Cup Series victories and recently failed in his quest for a NASCAR championship.

He co-owns 23XI Racing, headquartered in Huntersville, North Carolina, about 23 miles from Stanley.
