- Workers and executives only benefit from 14 to 16 minutes of net time savings from AI, report finds
- Most of the time saved is spent on fact-checking and validating results.
- Most managers say they plan to retrain and upskill their workers.
Most leaders (89%) and workers (79%) now agree that while AI improves productivity, exactly how much time it saves is up for debate.
A new study from Foxit suggests that real-time gains could be small compared to the potential, simply because of the time workers must spend trusting and understanding AI tools.
According to the report’s data, managers only saved 16 minutes per week, and workers only 14 minutes, despite AI’s bold claims.

AI doesn’t really save you much time…yet
On the other hand, executives spent four hours and 20 minutes validating the results, while employees spent an equally significant three hours and 50 minutes verifying the generated content.
Foxit calls this a “proofing load,” where the time saved from creating content is offset by fact-checking and other corrections.
Even though they spend more time verifying, 60% of executives say they have high confidence in AI results, but only about one in three workers have confidence. This lack of trust was the second biggest barrier to AI, cited by 34% of workers, with data privacy and security concerns (36%) slightly outpacing it. Accuracy issues (25%) were also raised.
But change may be on the horizon, as nearly three-quarters (72%) of executives are focused on reskilling or upskilling employees to handle AI.
“The next phase of document intelligence will not be defined by more AI capabilities, but by integrating precise, transparent intelligence directly into workflows,” wrote VP Marketing Evan Reiss, “reducing validation time while maintaining control over humans.”
