It’s the eighth matchweek of the 2025/26 Premier League season and Manchester City host Everton. An action-packed match with stories spiraling all over the pitch. From John Stones’ derby, to Moyes’ record against City and the return (or not) of Jack Grealish.
Pep Guardiola’s Man City side are starting to find their form as before the recent international break, the Citizens were unbeaten in their last eight games. Led by the goal machine that is Erling Haaland, City occupy 5th place in the Premier League, 3 points from first place. Despite their illusory league position, City are still within touching distance of the title race and will prefer to be the underdog if they can stay within reach of Arsenal and Liverpool.
In their last outing, Man City picked up a 1-0 win at Brentford, which as many big clubs know is no mean feat. Guardiola hopes the international break does not kill his side’s momentum as they look to build on their unbeaten record against the Toffees in their last 17 meetings in all competitions.
David Moyes’ Everton side have made an impressive start to the 2025/26 Premier League season, sitting in 8th place after 7 matches. After a busy summer of recruitment, Moyes’ new-look Everton appear to have turned the page on their days of poor form and relegation battles.
Led by the attacking talent of Jack Grealish, the Toffees are unbeaten at home at their brand new Hill Dickinson stadium. Last time out, Everton secured a 2-1 victory against high-flying Crystal Palace, thanks to an injury-time winner from none other than Jack Grealish. Despite the fact that much of the pre-match preparation will be based around the former Aston Villa man, he is set to miss the game against his parent club due to a fear clause in his loan deal, so Everton will have to struggle without him.
With Grealish watching from the sidelines, Everton will have to rely on the rest of their attacking talent to get to Man City and hope the Citizens’ big Norwegian has a calm, if unlikely, game.

Moyes’ side will travel to Manchester with their own mini-injury crisis. Defender Jarrad Branthwaite is still out with a thigh injury and the Toffees will also be without another centre-back, Michael Keane, who is suffering from a rib injury. In addition to the two central defenders, Danny Rohl will not make the trip because he is still suffering from a groin injury. Everton will also be without Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall who is suspended as well as Jack Grealish who is unavailable due to a fear clause meaning he cannot play against his parent club.
